My name is Claudia and I started Wild Carrot because cooking is what makes me happy. As a kid, I would retreat to the kitchen whenever boredom struck and create braided loaves of bread, stuffed zucchini, and summer fruit pies. There's no doubt I was inspired by my mother and grandmother—both excellent cooks.
Never considering a career in food, I went off to college and worked for twenty years as a graphic designer and art director. My passion for food was always gently bubbling on the back burner. Determined to turn my obsession into my job, in 2012 I decided to pursue a master’s degree in Gastronomy from Boston University. As part of my studies, I completed the Culinary Certificate program there, and was awarded the Julia Child Teaching Assistant position. As a student and TA, I was fortunate to have learned from such notable chefs and food professionals as Michael Leviton, Barry Maiden, Joanne Chang, Mary Ann Esposito, Sheryl Julian, and the legendary Jacques Pepin.
I finished my degree and decided to become a personal chef because it allows me to share my talent while simplifying people’s lives. I also work as a freelance writer, photographer, and recipe developer for The Boston Globe and Edible Boston and teach part-time at Boston University. I live in Arlington with my husband and two kitchen-savvy teenagers.
